Inside the Basilica of Santo Spirito are some of the most important works of the Renaissance masters, including the Wooden Crucifix by Michelangelo.
The Santo Spirito complex welcomed extraordinary masters: Filippino Lippi, Andrea Sansovino, Alessandro Allori, Bernardino Poccetti, Michelangelo, who found hospitality here after the death of Lorenzo the Magnificent and were able to study anatomy in the convent hospital, thanks to the Prior Niccolò di Lapo Bichiellini. Thanks to him, the Basilica was left with Michelangelo’s Crucifix, a youthful, very sweet and powerful work. Artworks within the Basilica also come from masters: Bernardo Rossellino, Cosimo Roselli, Francesco Granacci, Michele and Ridolfo Ghirlandaio, Maso di Banco. The stained-glass window on the facade was instead made to a design by Perugino.
